Okay. Yesterday’s blog post revolved around my plan to try the craft known as “punch needle” – essentially punching a string or yarn or floss through a fabric to create a pretty pattern upon it.
And the plan was to do this while my girlfriend Suzanne and I watched the Pittsburgh Steelers football game yesterday.
So at kickoff … here’s what I had.

Okay. Right off the bat, I’ve got a canvas. And now it goes into the embroidery hoop.

All right. I can do this. All I need to do is thread the punch needle …
Which took me about an entire quarter of football to do. Yeah. Just enough time to watch Aaron Rodgers fling up a nasty interception that gave the Browns momentum. Ugh.
No matter. I’ve gotten the floss threaded in the needle, now let’s start punching.
And I started punching the needle into the fabric.
And this is how far I got … before I realized that I HAVE NO BUSINESS WORKING IN PUNCH NEEDLE.

Oh my God this thing looks AWFUL. Painful. I couldn’t hold on to this if it was handed to me by DK Metcalf.
I showed Suzanne my failure. And to my surprise, where I might expect to receive ridicule or scorn for my errant jabbing and tearing of that fabric, instead Suzanne showed compassion and understanding.
“Let me have that canvas,” she said. “If I can’t make it work, I’ll try to paint the cow for you.”
At that point, I knew this relationship with Suzanne was worth preserving. 😀
So as far as I’m concerned, I’m done with punch needle. I’ll stick to latch hook and all the other art projects I can muster.
Besides, I still have to get Ganef the Squirrel done by June, if I want to enter it in Competition Season 2027.
Chuck let’s be honest. I did chuckle when you showed the kit. A cow? Seriously. Lol. The reason he embarked on this crazy train, was I saw a pretty snowman, Santa. Punch needle but fabric not string. He wanted to try a small project first, ummm ok. Me I just jump in where art is concerned. So yesterday when he dumped it out and the was embroidery floss I was confused. He struggled to thread the punch needle, I was silent. Then his frustrated sigh, im ripping the fabric, let me try the other ear. Still silence. Then, Look! Look at this. Knowing he was not happy about his progress, I looked. Yup not his best work. But its new. It weird. Of course its not gonna look like the picture a professional did. But salvageable. Just rework your supplies. Yoila! Art! He’s adorable. Cleveland btw. Hee hee.
